What is Reiki?

Reiki (ray-key) is Japanese for β€˜universal life energy,' a term used to describe a system of natural healing. Reiki works on every level, not just the physical, and is understood to promote the body’s regenerative self-healing ability. Reiki should not be considered a cure for conditions. Reiki can help improve the results of medical treatment(s), acting to reduce negative side effects, shorten the healing time, reduce or eliminate pain, reduce stress, and induce optimism.

- from the Reiki Council

Reiki practitioners use a technique called hands-on healing through which a "universal energy" is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional, physical, mental and spiritual healing. Reiki is both powerful and gentle. The patient often experiences a radiant warmth and a sense of contentment. Reiki may be done in person or at a distance.

β€œIn its long history of use it (Reiki) has aided in healing virtually every known illness and injury including serious problems like: multiple sclerosis, heart disease, and cancer as well as skin problems, cuts, bruises, broken bones, headache, colds, flu, sore throat, sunburn, fatigue, insomnia, impotence, poor memory, lack of confidence, etc.”

What is distant Reiki?

Distance healing is a common practice in Usui Reiki. Just as a practitioner uses hands-on-healing hand placements in person, they can also send Reiki to these areas, no matter where the client is or what time of the day or night. I often send Reiki to myself at a particular time in the future. If I need to be focused at 11am, then I send Reiki to myself, to be received at that time.

What to expect?

To receive the Distance Reiki, you can set the intention of receiving energy by sitting or lying down, in a comfortable position, in a quiet room, with meditative music playing.

A candle is a nice touch as well. It allows you a point of focus to concentrate on if your eyes are open during the treatment. Eyes closed is okay too.

You can also receive Reiki while you sleep, while they are at work, or driving, or watching a movie, etc.

Drink water. With any energy work, drinking water afterwards helps move and clear stuck energy.

  • Benefits: receiving distant Reiki in the comfort of your own home, privacy, and convenience.

  • What it feels like: a warm sensation, tingling, calmness, very relaxed, and some released emotion, like crying or laughing.

  • An optional Client Intake Form can be filled out and returned to the Reiki Practitioner to help guide the session.

  • Reiki goes where it is needed, so the form is not required.
